Fannie Mae Multifamily
Challenge:
Fannie Mae’s Multifamily organization
was plagued with issues related to their data.
It was determined they needed a unified view
of their data that could easily be accessed,
analyzed and reported on.
Solution:
ProLink’s Decisions Support Systems Team
delivered a strategy for the Multifamily data
environment. The effort involved assessing the
70 different transactional systems within the
Multifamily environment and conducting rapid
consensus workshops with the executive management
team to identify which applications would be
included in the strategy and the “pains”
within the organization. ProLink gathered this
information and defined the key business drivers
within the organization. Data redundancy, data
latency, data access, data quality and data
integration were the key issues that needed
to be addressed by the Data Strategy.
After
the business drivers were identified, ProLink
assessed the current architecture within Multifamily.
ProLink recommended leveraging the existing
Data Warehouse while building an Operational
Data Store to address the immediate needs of
the operational community. By building an Operational
Data Store the key business drivers were focused
on and could be addressed. Data from the Operational
Data Store would serve only the needs of the
operational community and the Data Warehouse
would continue to address the regulatory, financial
and analytical reporting requirements of the
organization. This Operational Data Store would
also assist in data standardization, data consistency
and the elimination of multiple data stores
within the organization.
ProLink recommended building a data portal that
provides the key performance indicators for
the organization, reporting access to the ODS,
and reporting access to the Data Warehouse.
The premise behind this portal is to provide
the users within the Multifamily organization
one-entry point into their data.
ProLink provided the guidelines necessary for
the Operational Data Store development for 2002,
including detailed project plans, quality management
and tool recommendations. Upon completion of
the Data Strategy initiative, ProLink was asked
to work with the Operational Data Store project
team to define the requirements and scope for
the first release of the Operational Data Store.
Result:
Fannie Mae’s Multifamily organization
has the ability to access their data through
a data portal called MBRE (Multifamily Business
Reporting Environment). This portal provides
a user friendly interface for analytics and
reporting. The MBRE framework is currently being
leveraged for an enterprise data integration
effort expected to be implemented in 2004.
